Transitioning to College

Transitioning to College
Transition is “a process or period of changing from one state to another.” This is how I feel my transition to college will unfold. I will have to manage my exhaustion, my distractions, my rigorous work load, and my money. College is a whole new world compared to high school; it goes something like “with age comes great responsibility.” We are no longer under our parents thumb; we are now on our own and expected to complete the tasks given to us on our own. There is no need to worry; this what high school was designed for, to teach us how to prosper and develop in college.
I looked at colleges mainly for the schooling, and when I thought about the transitions I would have to make, I knew it would be dramatic because I am not used to such a rigorous work load. My last few years in high school were fairly simple, so I felt my transition to college would be frightening and eye-opening. The number one transition that I believe will occur with me and my life is most certainly exhaustion. I work very hard and strive to succeed at my utmost best. I know I will need to learn to take a step back and rest, I will eat healthy and energizing foods, and I will do my homework in a timely manner to reduce the likelihood of stress and no sleep.

I get distracted easily and know my limits, but I do not always respect them. I will need to learn my distractions and know when and how to eliminate them. I know if I keep my goal in sight I will have no problem doing so. I genuinely enjoy time with my friends, but we have bigger and better responsibilities now, which are to complete our work and to sometimes say “no” to outside activities.
The work load increases tremendously here at college; however, it is not impossible to complete. It will take serious amounts of studying and concentration. Keeping an agenda is a fantastic way for me know what my assignments are and keep track of the due dates for each and every thing I have to do. The work load is tedious and must be completed first among other tasks. Dealing with the work load with minimal stress and getting the most out the time spent there are accomplished by knowing and understanding the importance of taking breaks and clearing the mind for a while.
Unfortunately, college is not like high school where they provide my books for me. Every required text book that I need I must buy. I knew this would be a major transition for me in my budget and learning how to prioritize. I personally do not come from a wealthy family, so I understand and know that I have to create a budget and a spending plan. Money will be a major transition for me and my family, so we will have to make some cut backs to make this transition an easy one.
Transitioning to college seems to be one of the biggest tasks I am willing to take on so far. Although college is a difficult and intense transformation, I know it will become one the

greatest adventures yet to come in my life. Overcoming all of the transitions I foresee to come will not be easy but it is certainly doable. The exhaustion, distractions, workload and money issues yet to present themselves are challenges I am willing to take on.
